"CHAMBER 1"

November 5 - December 15, 1993

press release:
Through the generosity of D.G.Hart Associates, 7,500 square feet of space has been made available for the exhibition of art work at the former site of the Marine Midland Bank in TriBeCa. Exhibitions under the general title of CHAMBER will occur here until it is rented.

CHAMBER 1 will include paintings, performances, photgraphs, photographs, and sculpture by Matthew Blackwell, Steven Brower, Catherine Chalmers, Theresa Chong, Melissa Dadourian, Lesley Dill, Elana Herzog, Robert Kalka, Matt Magee, Laura Vandenburgh, and others.

CHAMBER 1 will open November 5 and run through December 15. CHAMBER is located at 128-132 Chambers Street, on the corner of West Broadway in Manhattan. The exhibtion will be open noon to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Opening reception and performance on Friday, November 5 from 6 - 9 p.m. Call (212) 714-8157 for a schedule of performances and other information.

The directors of CHAMBER are not affiliated with any institution, and have two primary concerns: to provide a venue to artists outside the gallery circuit, and to consider work which addresses this temporary, non-neutral site.

We are considering propsals for CHAMBER 2 and other use of this space. Group or single person installations, performances, lectures, and other activities are possible.

CHAMBER wishes to thank Art Initiatives, Boxart, Inc., D.G.Hart Associates, OIA, and, most of all, the artists who have supported this project.
