CHAMBER, AN ITINERANT EXHIBITION SPACE, PRESENTS CHAMBER 8, AN EXHIBITION OF 15 ARTISTS

The curatorial team Midgard has organized an exhibition of works by 15 artists, CHAMBER 8, to be presented at 85 West Broadway, from Friday, October 4 through Sunday, October 27. Though the artists represented in the exhibition work in a variety of media, their art shares the fractional quality of life lived in the post-structural world.

The exhibition is presented in conjunction with CHAMBER, an itinerant exhibition space that since 1993 has provided artists with a venue beyond the established gallery system.

Among the artists featured in the exhibition are Matt Blackwell, Meighan Gale, Nico Jenkins, and Barry McGee. Jenkins invites the viewer to occupy the facsimile of a peep show booth he will construct and equip with two cases of Budweiser, an ashtray, and a catheter emptying through the wall of the booth into a bucket. Gale's sculptures, included in exhibitions throughout the U.S. and Europe, incorporate natural and manmade found objects along with video imagery that bind the disparate elements to one another.

Blackwell's sculptures of domestic objects are fashioned from scrap metal found on the streets of Brooklyn. McGee's urban infernos have been shown at The Drawing Center and Holly Solomon, New York, and was awarded the 1996 SECA grant from the Museum of Modern Art.

Other artists whose work is included in the exhibition are David Arnn, Melissa Dadourian, Jason Glasser, Jay Jurisch, Margaret Kilgallen, Robert Martinez, Martin McMurray, Theodore McMurray, Enoc Perez, Nina Roberts, and Laura Vandenburgh.
